What resins are used?
Isophthalic polyester, vinylester and other resins are used.
Through the use of various additives, the liquid resin can be modified to provide specific performance.
Important additives include: ultraviolet radiation protectors added to profiles to prevent deterioration when exposed to the elements; antimony oxide for flame retardancy; pigments for coloring; and many others incorporated into the profile that can provide a smooth surface finish as well as crack prevention.
When fire-resistant profiles are required, one such additive is Aluminum Trihydrate, whose main property is to suppress flames and prevent smoke that may be generated after the start of a fire.
